Andreas Martin Bottelsen's Snusdåse (Chew box)

This photo copy was given by Trond Indahl at the Bergens Brukskunst museum in January 2008. It represent one of two artifacts that the museum has in their possession. At the present time they have it in their vault, but hopefully when they expand their silver artifacts exhibition, it will be a part of that.
This box was made in 1868.
Previous owners include:
Johannes Brun, Bernt Andreas Bottelsen, Vidar Bottelsen, Vivan Bottelsen.
The last owner was Peder Olai Bottelsen, who was 80 years old when he donated it to the Vestlandske Brukskunst museum (Museum of Useful Art) in Bergen.

Rectangular, strait sidesflat hinged lid, sparingly engraved decor
On the lid, the following enscription:"Johannes Brun" (the Actor) later added + (cross) over and 7/3-90 (meaning 7th of March 1890) under the name, and outside the pattern: "From ---- To" B. A. Bottelsen.
On the front the following inscript: "A. M. Bottelsen's Masterpiece presented 4/12-68" (Meaning 4th dec 1868)

Last Masterpiece presented to Bergen Goldsmith guild before it was resolved. S B is Samuel Olsen Bratland (master number) 263.1858-71 Worked later as apprentis under Bottelsen.Givers information: A.M. Bottelsen sold the box to actor Johannes Brun. His widdow gave it to the givers uncle, Bernt Andreas Bottelsen who also an actor, and had been together with Johannes Brun from their childhood days. At the death of B.A. Bottelsen, the box was inheritaged by the son Vidar B. and after his death to the daughter Vivian of whom the giver have received it.
